Go through to a local medical supply store...there are many things that can be purchased by anyone there without a perscription that are useful in one way or another...I'm going to take this time to describe my first aid kit which resides in a fishing tackle box (one of the ones with a see-through upper lid and then another lid to a larger compartment with a lift-out tray)...these things are handy when you're playing and contain a surprising number of toys...how many can you find?

First layer (e.g., transparent lid...easiest to access):

• bandaids...plain, cloth, fingertip, knuckle, in
• various
• sizes
• butterfly bandages (holds together a straight cut)
• ammonia inhalant (in case someone faints)
• themometer & covers
• kling gauze
• 2x2, 3x3 gauze pads...some non-stick
• emergency scissors & small scissors for cutting pads
• & tape
• hemostats
• twizers
• pen light w/locking on/off so you can hold it in
• your mouth
• eye pad & tape
• forehead themometer
• pen (writing)
• tongue depressors
• long cotton tipped applicators
• small sewing kit
• gloves
• 2" offset compress bandage
• lanolin tube
• triple antibiotic tube
• zinc oxide tube
• assorted types of tape (except my favorite :-( which I'm missing)
• alcohol swabs
• microbicidal swabs
• antiseptic wipes
• premoistened towelettes
• glucose tablets (have a diabetic friend)

Inside the lift-up tray:

• tylanol
• ibuprofen
• decongestant
• tiger balm (topical pain relief w/camphor etc)
• hydrocortisone
• water purification tabs (don't ask me, I don't know either)
• salt tablets (Kent's on lithium)
• afrin (spray decongestant)
• anti-nausea liquid
• pepto-bismol caplets (stomach upset)
• naproxen
• immodium (anti-diarrheal)
• matches
• interdental cleaners
• condoms
• clear nail polish
• sore throat lozenges
• waterless antibaterial hand cleaner
• peppermint oil
• children's tylanol & motrin
• stick of cocoa butter
• ipecac syrup
• eye wash
• Merthiolate (topical antiseptic tincture)
• Benedryl itch relief spray
• royal jelly lip balm (used for slight burns)
• lip balm
• tea tree oil
• sleep tabs (same ingrediant as a popular antihistimine)
• goldenseal powder
• antiseptic anesthetic pump spray
• contact lens remover & case
• hand lotion

Large compartment:

• elastic bandages in 3", 4" & 6" widths
• another waterless hand cleaner
• arm sling
• muslin bandage
• safety glasses
• tube-bandage
• 5x9 & 8x10 absorbant pads
• 3 cold packs
• heat pack (need more of these!)
• stethescope
• K-Y jelly

Obviously I'm missing stuff...like burn cream, my favorite tape (it's called something like duropore...I know it when I see it!), cough syrup for kids as well as some type of decongestant for them, potassium, L-lysine & my lip balm with allicin in it for incipiant cold sores, cotton balls....<grin> going to a medical supply store is like a candy store for me!
